China and music

Over the course of the 20th century, Western classical music has firmly taken root in Asian countries. Japan and South Korea have provided us with many very great performers. Now China is doing so, after a delay due in large part to the Cultural Revolution, during which the Red Guards destroyed musical instruments, while artists and students were sent to be “re-educated” the fields.
