The Valse Triste of our Orchestras
In Italy, after the departure of maestro Riccardo Muti, whom they say was tired of working under the constant threat of strikes, the superintendent of the Rome Opera turns around and dismisses chorus and orchestra, henceforth to be engaged piecemeal. And furthermore, he is encouraging the dismissed artists to set up their own company with which the opera could contract.
